Welcome to Onaman River Resort Updated ; Feb./ 6 / 2010

To our valued guest ;
As the winter so far has been relatively mild comparable to most ,conditions are
favorable to take advantage of some great ice fishing opportunities. With only about 2ft
of snow on the ground this yr. and the day time temperature`s hanging in around the
-10c range travel to many area lakes is possible. Fishing has been fantastic and seemed
to get going a little sooner than usual with most groups reporting good catches and an
average 2ft of ice on most of the area in-land lakes utilized. With january and hopefully
most of the really cold weather behind us and conditions such as they are it`s looking
like the best is yet to come as the fishing generally only gets better approaching ice-out.
As we approach spring , looking forward to what promisses to be another stellar yr. of
trout fishing, i`m predicting an early ice-out for lk.nipigon this yr. And you know what
that means, ice-out trout. Lake trout are shallow and high in the water, brookies are
agressive and if you don`t mind bobbing amongst the ice cubes it`s an amazing event in
a trout fisherman`s life. Likewise with the early spring walleye should be done with the
spawn and active again by opening dates on most area lakes. All in all it`s looking like
another fantastic season ahead and we look forward to meeting all our new guest`s and
for those of you returning we appreciate your continued patronage.
Again this year guest`s will notice improvements and projects taking place around the
property and again we appreciate your patience as we strive to improve the services
which we provide to you. Docks are done and will be installed and floating as soon as
the river allows this spring and some parking will be added to the marina / launch area
for registered guests. We are actively pursuing the issue of improvements to the launch
ramp itself with the ministry of natural resources in an effort to provide improved access
for the larger boats and a better facility in general.
For the past year and a half Onaman River Resort has been working collectively with
various government and related agencies with the intent of installing an on-site
renewable energy system in the form of a combination solar array / wind turbine to
provide electricity for the resort. While it has been a long and trying process the
prospects of realizing our goal is ever closer and with some luck we are looking at
installation this season. For the most part this will not effect our daily operations during
the transisition period and the end result will be improved service quality , the
elimination of noise from the diesel generator as well as the environmental benefits due
to reduced emissions. As pro-ponents of a healthy environment and sustainable living
we feel that this is a nescessary move in a positive direction.
Looking toward the future i must reflect on the past and at this time would like to take
the opportunity to thank all our quest`s, old and new, for their patronage and support as
we build a resort destination representative of the quality fishing and unique
surroundings, and to which you, our valued client will want to return.
Sincerely;
Robert Lindsey
